I have noticed one thing about myself that has changed once I had children: the easiest way to irritate me is to do something unkind to my kids. On the other hand, one quick way to make a good impression is to be kind to my kids. I think most of us are that way. Those who treat our childrenA with respect and love gain our favor.
A couple of passages of Scripture come to mind. John wrote in his first letter to the churches, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1).
How would our attitudes toward one another change if we were to remember that we could dealing with a son or daughter of God? If we were to hold that in the forefront of our minds before we interact with people, then we might strive to treat each other more kindly. I wonder if that was what Jesus was getting at when he said, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:25).
Showing love for one another is certainly a lot easier if we can keep in mind that their Father is always watching!
